Building an Engineering-First Social Media Engine
Turning complex FPGA technology into audience growth, technical engagement, and demand, with in-house creative and no agency spend.
IMPACT AT A GLANCE
~80% follower growth (69K → 128K in 20 months)
5M+ LinkedIn impressions in 2025
8–10% CTR on top-performing posts (4–6% blended)
$0 agency spend for day-to-day creative
Challenge: Make a highly technical FPGA company relevant and engaging on social media for engineers, developers, and technical decision-makers.
My role: Own Altera’s LinkedIn organic and paid program end to end: strategy, editorial planning, creative, paid amplification, and analytics.
Why it mattered: Built an owned audience of 128K that the company can reach for every launch, event, and campaign, and connected social engagement to product exploration, webinars, and search.
The Business Challenge
Engineering audiences are skeptical of marketing. Generic product promotion doesn’t earn their attention, and posting more often doesn’t earn their trust.
The goal wasn’t to increase volume or impressions. It was to make Altera’s social channels genuinely useful to FPGA engineers, hardware engineers, developers, technical decision-makers, customers, and partners, while connecting social storytelling to broader brand, product, event, partner, and demand-generation priorities.
AI-Enabled Creative Operations
In-house creative at scale, with no agency spend for day-to-day content.
I built an AI-assisted creative workflow using ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Canva, and Adobe to speed up technical learning, message development, and creative production. Every technical asset still went through SME and content-team review for accuracy.
What this delivered
$0 agency spend for day-to-day social content, saved annual cost of approximately $100K
Faster turnaround for planned campaigns and real-time moments, reducing from 5 days to 4 hours per asset
More creative testing, including single-image posts, infographics, carousels, and short-form video, which fed performance data back into the content mix
My approach: AI speed + human expertise + creative experimentation + performance data
The Strategy
I built the program on three principles:
1. Build Authority: Use technical, application-led storytelling to establish Altera as a credible voice in FPGA technology.
2. Grow the Engineering Audience: Combine consistent organic publishing with selective paid amplification to scale high-performing content and grow Altera’s owned audience.
3. Move Awareness Toward Action: Connect social content to technical blogs, product pages, developer resources, webinars, events, partner content, and search campaigns.
The Content Engine
Six content pillars kept the program balanced across business priorities:
01 · Brand & Leadership
Independent Altera, executive voice, company milestones, industry leadership
02 · Product & Software
Agilex® portfolio, Quartus® software, security, Direct RF, memory
03 · AI & Applications
Physical AI, robotics, edge AI, vision, industrial automation
04 · Developers & Education
Technical blogs, tutorials, demos, webinars, LinkedIn Live
05 · Partner & Ecosystem
Altera Solution Acceleration Partners, distributors, partner solutions
06 · Learning & Development
FPGA Trainings, university programs, community support
Top-Performing Content

My Role
Program Ownership: Own Altera’s LinkedIn organic and paid program end to end, including strategy, budget, and performance.
Social Strategy & Editorial Planning: Built the content framework and always-on publishing rhythm around corporate, product, software, AI, application, event, and ecosystem priorities.
Technical Storytelling: Translated FPGA architecture, software, and engineering capabilities into audience-first stories without losing technical credibility.
Creative Development: Produced social copy and visuals in-house for planned and real-time campaigns, using an AI-assisted workflow.
Organic + Paid Amplification: Used organic performance signals to decide which narratives earned paid distribution, extending the reach of proven content.
Demand Connection: Linked social to webinars, LinkedIn Live, product exploration, partner programs, and high-intent search.
Analytics & Optimization: Analyzed reach, clicks, engagement, follower growth, creative performance, and audience behavior to improve each subsequent campaign.
What Performance Taught Me
Technical relevance earns attention.
Engineering audiences respond when the story starts with a recognizable technical or application challenge.
Applications make complexity tangible.
Vision, robotics, AI, RF, and real-world workflows make sophisticated FPGA capabilities easier to understand, and our top posts consistently led with an application.
Third-party validation outperforms self-promotion.
The award story achieved our highest CTR (~10.1%). External proof is more persuasive than claims from the company itself.
Developer value drives action.
Software flexibility, workflows, and tangible engineering benefits turn awareness into clicks and audience growth.
Paid works best on proven content.
Using organic signals to choose what to amplify made paid spend more efficient.
Outcome
Built Altera’s LinkedIn into an engineering-first growth engine: ~80% follower growth (69K → 128K), 5M+ impressions in 2025, and 8–10% CTR on top content, all produced in-house with no agency spend for day-to-day creative.
Social became more than a publishing channel. It became an owned audience and a front door into the broader customer journey, moving engineers from technical stories into product pages, developer resources, webinars, and search.
